How much does a OUI cost in Connecticut?

A first OUI in Connecticut carries a statutory fine of $500 – $1,000 (Conn. Gen. Stat. §14-227a). This guide stacks every cost layer an official Connecticut source prices — the fine, court costs, the license reinstatement fee, the OUI program, ignition interlock, and the SR-22 insurance filing — and says plainly which layers no official source prices at all.

Connecticut OUI costs at a glanceFigure
Statutory fine — first OUIConnecticut's OUI fine amounts are set in General Statutes Sec. 14-227a, and General Statutes Sec. 14-227a(g)(1) sets the fine for a first conviction at $500 to $1,000. Court costs and any program fees are charged in addition to the fine.
Court costs & feesConnecticut does not publish a single statewide court-cost figure for OUI cases on its DMV pages; costs are assessed by the Superior Court handling the case.
License suspension — first offenseA first OUI conviction brings a 45-day license suspension, followed by one year of driving only with an ignition interlock device after the license is restored. A separate Administrative Per Se suspension of 45 days, beginning 30 days after the arrest, applies for failing or refusing the chemical test.
License reinstatement feeLicense reinstatement after an OUI costs a $175 reinstatement fee, plus a separate $100 ignition interlock administration fee charged by the DMV - $275 in DMV fees before the cost of the device itself.
Ignition interlockRequired for all first offenders — An ignition interlock device is required to get driving privileges back after an OUI: one year of IID-only driving follows a first conviction, and the administrative program requires six months of IID for a first test failure (one year for a first refusal). The DMV states there is no fixed cost for an IID - independent vendors set the install and monthly prices, paid directly to the vendor.
OUI education / treatment programConnecticut's Judicial Branch operates a Pretrial Alcohol Education Program that eligible first offenders may apply to before trial, in place of prosecution. The program's application and evaluation fees could not be verified from an official page opened for this research.
SR-22 insurance filingConnecticut's DMV suspension and IID pages reviewed do not list an SR-22 filing among the requirements to reinstate after an OUI, so no SR-22 requirement or fee is published here.

Worked total

Because the court can set the fine anywhere within the statutory range, the total turns on the fine your court actually imposes. Use the verified components on this page, add the fine from your judgment, and stack your own figures in the cost calculator.
