How much does a DUI cost in Idaho?

A first DUI in Idaho carries a statutory fine of Up to $1,000. This guide stacks every cost layer an official Idaho source prices — the fine, court costs, the license reinstatement fee, the DUI program, ignition interlock, and the SR-22 insurance filing — and says plainly which layers no official source prices at all.

Idaho DUI costs at a glanceFigure
Statutory fine — first DUIA first-offense DUI in Idaho is a misdemeanor under Idaho Code 18-8005, and the statute sets a fine of up to $1,000 with no stated minimum. The statute text reviewed adds no mandatory fund surcharge on top of the fine.
Statutory fine — second DUIThe statute separates a second offense: Up to $2,000. Second offenses also carry longer suspensions and program requirements — see the sections below.
Court costs & feesNo single statewide court-cost figure is published in the Idaho statute or on the Idaho Transportation Department pages reviewed. Court costs are assessed in the individual case.
License suspension — first offenseThe license suspension for a first offense starts with 30 days of absolute suspension with no driving privileges at all, which cannot be reduced. After that comes an additional suspension of at least 60 and up to 150 days, during which restricted driving privileges may be requested for employment or family health needs.
License reinstatement feeThe Idaho Transportation Department lists a DUI reinstatement fee of $285. A separate administrative license suspension (ALS) reinstatement fee of $245 also exists and is charged separately where it applies.
Ignition interlockRequired for all first offenders — Within 10 days after the absolute suspension period ends, the driver must have a state-approved ignition interlock device, paid for at his own expense, on all vehicles he operates, and must keep it for 1 year following the end of the suspension period, unless an exception under Idaho Code 18-8002(12) applies. The court may find the offender eligible for the court interlock fund if the cost causes financial hardship. The official pages reviewed publish no install or monthly dollar figures for the device.
DUI education / treatment programBefore sentencing, the court orders an alcohol evaluation at the person's own expense, performed by a provider approved by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, and the person must complete any treatment the evaluation indicates is needed. No evaluation or treatment fee amount is published in the statute.
SR-22 insurance filingIdaho requires the driver to maintain an SR-22 insurance policy for 3 years beginning at the conclusion of the suspension period. An SR-22 is a form the insurance company files with the state to prove coverage is in force; Idaho publishes no state filing fee for it, and any premium increase is set by the insurer, not the state.

The fine

A first-offense DUI in Idaho is a misdemeanor under Idaho Code 18-8005, and the statute sets a fine of up to $1,000 with no stated minimum. The statute text reviewed adds no mandatory fund surcharge on top of the fine.

License suspension & reinstatement

The license suspension for a first offense starts with 30 days of absolute suspension with no driving privileges at all, which cannot be reduced. After that comes an additional suspension of at least 60 and up to 150 days, during which restricted driving privileges may be requested for employment or family health needs.

The Idaho Transportation Department lists a DUI reinstatement fee of $285. A separate administrative license suspension (ALS) reinstatement fee of $245 also exists and is charged separately where it applies.

The national picture — which states charge the most to reinstate — is in our license reinstatement guide.

Ignition interlock

Within 10 days after the absolute suspension period ends, the driver must have a state-approved ignition interlock device, paid for at his own expense, on all vehicles he operates, and must keep it for 1 year following the end of the suspension period, unless an exception under Idaho Code 18-8002(12) applies. The court may find the offender eligible for the court interlock fund if the cost causes financial hardship. The official pages reviewed publish no install or monthly dollar figures for the device.

How interlock pricing works (installation, monthly lease, calibration, removal) is in our ignition interlock cost guide.

DUI education & treatment program

Before sentencing, the court orders an alcohol evaluation at the person's own expense, performed by a provider approved by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, and the person must complete any treatment the evaluation indicates is needed. No evaluation or treatment fee amount is published in the statute.

SR-22 & insurance

Idaho requires the driver to maintain an SR-22 insurance policy for 3 years beginning at the conclusion of the suspension period. An SR-22 is a form the insurance company files with the state to prove coverage is in force; Idaho publishes no state filing fee for it, and any premium increase is set by the insurer, not the state.

Towing, impound & other charges

The Idaho Transportation Department separately lists a $245 reinstatement fee for an administrative license suspension (ALS), distinct from the $285 DUI reinstatement fee.

Worked total: the verified charges stacked

ItemCost
Statutory fineUp to $1,000
License reinstatement fee$285
Total of the verified state-set charges above$285–$1,285

That total is deliberately incomplete: it leaves out everything no official Idaho source prices statewide — court costs where they are set county by county, interlock lease payments to a private vendor, towing and storage, and the insurance increase that follows an SR-22.
